When you go to Tuscany, either check out the Amarone (a Valpolicella relative from nearby Verona), or don't.
Why to do it: it's big, it's rich, it's beyond red; it's purple; it's made via the infamous "noble rot" method; it's likely you'll find incredible bottles (and carafes) there for a pittance compared to the ransom you'd pay here.
Why not: you might never come back . . . you might devote the rest of your life to discovering every possible nuance in a bottle of Amarone; you might discover it's the one thing on the planet that takes your mind off thick, crispy bacon (the kind you probably can't get in Italy); you might marry a vintner and forget all about 'Burque; you might become a hopeless lush and spend the rest of your days in a rich, purple stupor . . . wait! Are these the reasons for or against?
Anyway, you get the idea.
Carry on!
It was quite painful, actually.
