Where I Live:
Chicago, IL
About Me:
Originally from ABQ - having moved across the US for work - I check the internet frequently to find out what's happening in my hometown.

I never recovered from my breakup with ABQ. I guess you can take the boy outta ABQ, but you can't take ABQ outta... well you know the rest.

Anyway, I left for San Francisco and lived there for about 4 years, then my job moved me to Chicago where I've been since 2003. I visit ABQ frequently, because my family and good friends from college (who since leaving after college, have returned) are there. I WILL BE BACK ONE DAY SOON!

Hey James,

Sorry for taking so long to get back. Thanks for kind words about ABQ Dwell. Hope you do indeed make it back for good!

I'm a librarian at a middle school here in ABQ. I keep debating doing something not in the education sector--either completely changing professions, doing something quasi-related, or just taking my wicked-cool librarian skills some place where it's not required that I hang around funky 12-year-olds all day. But then I find myself rather enjoying said 12-year-olds. . .

And just because of the weather, I'd want to get out of Chicago. It's a great city but holy cow--winter takes on another meaning in that part of the world.

Hey man, my family is from mainly central NM but my grandma claimed to be able to trace one of her great-great grandfathers to a general in the Spanish army. She would smirk at me when I was young and label myself as a Chicano.

I consider myself now to be a New Mexican, Nuevo Mexicano, Hispano or Hispanic. I agree that NM is generally more at ease with the mix of cultures than anywhere else I've been. I think that's why so many New Mexicans that leave eventually come back.

I truly never really appreciated the beauty and uniqueness of NM till I did some traveling and living out of state. I'm truly proud to be from here.

Anyway, good to hear your perspective man.

Not a problem. I did something similarly bizarre with someone else here on DFC!

Hey, James,

Thanks for the note. I was thanking you for adding me (in response to my invitation). At least I think that's how you ended on friends list here. Thanks, too, for the comments about my DCF page.

Cheers,
Mark David

Hi James. Welcome to Born in 'Burque! Some great conversations have already started. Have fun with it.

By the way, I lived in San Francisco for a short while - in the Sunset. I sure miss real potstickers!
