Jessie's Blog

The homeostasis of the blog...

...or of the blogger, actually, compels me to counter the heavy post with one less likely to prompt helpless head-shaking and righteous anger. It ain't much, but here it is: It's raining. It's raining. It's raining. Being a child of more temperate climes, moisture in all its forms is something I miss in this desert life. I walked home in the rain this afternoon, belly full of coffee and head full of wha… Continue

Square Pegs

Back in early February, I composed a little blog post that never saw the light of day. I'd dragged myself into the Urgent Care one morning after spending five straight days with a fever above 101. Satan had taken up residence in my entire respiratory tract (ever had bronchitis and a sinus infection?), and my immune system needed help. So I went. And sat. For a long time. (For the record, my PCP, while generally pretty good, is closed Fri-Sun. This was Saturday.) The post I wrote in my he… Continue

Spring Cookin'

A routine trip to the co-op today turned up a few exciting discoveries. The first was fresh, wild-picked morels (or merkels, as they are indeed called where I grew up) tempting me from the produce section. It's been a solid two decades since I last tasted these delicacies, and I still remember that flavor. Would that I could justify the $79.99/pound pricetag! A less alarming (but still steep) cost I did… Continue

got stuff?

There's an interesting discussion in the works over at m-pyre. The gals are talking about how much stuff matters, as a social currency, divining rod, and litmus test. The stuff you listen to, read, watch, eat... this stuff (I think) reflects that other, more nebulous stuff that you cultivate in your spirit and in your life. The Buddhists have a valid take on attachments, and they might even be right. But I was brou… Continue

Out like a lamb

Potting soil dusting the cleavage, Norman Blake pickin' outta my speakers, fresh arugula pesto (file under Reasons to Love Your Food Processor, #792) greening up my kitchen, and a breeze from my wide-open windows blowing over it all. Spring, you are so short, but so intensely loved while you're here.

Doc Watson! I haven't heard him for years. Saw him in concert with his son Merle (who, sadly died in an accident some years ago) around 1974, I think.

Alan apparently went by your place, looked over the fence and said he'd come by at 7am tomorrow morning and haul your stuff away (cut up trees?) for $30. Let me know if that's okay or if you have a message for him and I'll let him know. - Jill

Hi Jessie: call my home phone number and leave your contact info. Maybe the address of the place, too? I can find Alan for you. He's always anxious to work and has done jobs for several people on my block (8th St. off Freeman, near 4th and Griegos).

Howdy right back at ya. I donated a book to the Marble library that I thought you might find interest in . "The Beers of Richmond". I asked Ryan to just let you know it was there.

There is something about the detail, tension, feel of the well thought written word, which forms images in the frontal lobe while reading, that's kind of cool. OK, about sausages, as a beta tester, you are in!
