Profile

Where I Live:
Over the river and through the woods
About Me:
Once a wearer of lab coats and a dabbler with the RNA or DNA beasties that can kill you, I gave up that glamorous job to become a technical internal auditor. What was I thinking? A fan of the Hitchcockian Roger Thornhill who once asked, "How does a girl like you get to be a girl like you?"
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
Mountains, chile, sun, open spaces, Santa Fe Opera (wait...that's Santa Fe), the Montano Bridge, Gruet champagne, avians
Relationship Status:
Single
What I'm Reading:
If it involves cooking, gardening, the making of the atomic bomb, some peoples' biographies, wild west stories, weird and creepy stuff, birds, not-so-much-deep-thinking (I've given that up, along with tortured soul Russian literature), or breaking news about infectious diseases...I'm there.
What I'm Listening To:
My male cat, snoring.

For Ron: The Lapse of a Law-Abiding Citizen

I'm writing this blog for another DCFer who asked me to comment further on a comment I made to him. Since this is publicly posted and there's an off-chance that someone other than Ron may read this, I'd like to make the following statement: I did not write this to begin a discussion of the pros and cons of the Montano Bridge, so pleeeease don't go there. This is meant to be a humorous look at me looking at one of Albuquerque's landmarks and how I decided, perhaps erroneously, to invoke a piece o… Continue

It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I got the urge to write again and I pondered the subjects swirling around in my brain. Should I go with chile roasting, or should I write about The Dead Donor Rule, the ethics of which was discussed in a recent issue of The New England Journal of Medicine? To some of you, this may seem like a no-brainer dilemma. I mean, c'mon! This joint ain't called Duke City Fix fer nuthin' and chile roasting would be about our most favorite thing in the whole wide world: chile. How could I go w… Continue

Weather Or Not

I was just watching The Weather Channel and they're going on and on and on about Tropical Storm Fay. Yes, tropical storms can be really bad news and sometimes they even turn into hurricanes, but here's my taste test for whether or not a hurricane is going to be bad beyond belief: I just look at the names of my children or pets and if it's not one of their names, then it's not going to be a blow-your-mind type of event. Okay, so I don't have children--only one child--and his name has already been… Continue

So here's something other than a tale of my driving woes or party days or my bird obsession. I am fascinated with infectious diseases and I've spent a career catering to that fascination. It's probably the one subject I know most about in this world, and that doesn't even compare to others who have also spent many more years than I have following the bugs. Throughout the years I've watched new diseases get discovered, bacteria get harder to eradicate as they promiscuously toss about their resist… Continue

Ramblings2

Lord, I was born a ramblin' gal... Music Yesterday I went searching youtube for Jerry Jeff Walker singing LA Freeway. There's something very disconcerting about watching a video of Jerry Jeff singing on The Dinah Shore Show after being introduced by co-host Dandy Don Meredith. Whoa! When did that happen? And talk about a paradigm shift. I did notice that he had to change "sons of bitches they always bore me" to something milquetoasty. Ahh well...I went on to listen to Jaded Lov… Continue

"a legend is born I tell ya"... Somethin' to talk about as Bonnie Raitt would say!!

This is the fun side of DCF. My favorite side. Humor, light witty banter. The heavy is easy enough to find.

A blog for me! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Like the time when there used to be real live deejays on radio, and you got to give a shout out to someone... "this one goes out to that craaazy kitten, LFdW"

Hi LFdW,
As I account, you owe me two stories. Yes, I'm keeping track! Once you alluded to an act of civil disobedience "ala Thoreau", and then you mentioned something like "have I got a Crater Lake story to tell..." Well, I'm ALL EARS here...

Some clinical stuff, mostly clinical research trials, but the meat of it is the molecular / cellular biology of host-microbial gut interface. UNM, VA.

so you worked in mol bio.. or at least micro. I'm still there doing that.. I suppose you'd rather hire people to do it now (-; how does that apply to auditing (if at all)?

Hey LaFanciualla,
Groovy playlist! I cranked it up this evening while piddling around the house. Enjoyed every song! Time for a confession, though. I have a thing for Jan and Dean's version of Sunday Kind of Love. Check out Adelita's list if you get a chance.
