Big Bad Mamas

I have a secret confession. I love to sing. I love singing in the car, at home while cleaning the house, and whenever the spirit moves me. There’s just this one little problem - I am tone deaf. To say I sing off key is an understatement. And I’ve got the vocal range of about two… Continue

Fiesta de Las Flores

Off of a non-descript part of Fourth Street in the North Valley, is a tree lined street where a hidden paradise exists. My cousin Soledad lives on this street and the most spectacular sight awaits you when you walk through her house and into her backyard. What you see is an explosion of c… Continue

Wild Wild West

You ever have one of those days when everything goes wrong? The elevator at work decided not to work. My office is on the third floor and since my knees were screaming at me today, it was a chore having to drag stuff up and down three flights of stairs. I had to go to… Continue

Honor Thy Father

The Aztecs believed that “the happy dead” visited their relatives in the form of beautiful butterflies to assure the family that all was well. These butterflies flew around the house and around bouquets of flowers... My father would have been 78 years old this past… Continue

My Big Fat New Mexican Wedding

It’s wedding season – dresses are being altered, flowers are being ordered, and bands are being booked. Some old traditions will be observed and some new traditions will be started. I was married for eight years and much like my marriage, my non-traditional wedding was short an…

Torta de Huevo

Being Hispanic but not Catholic always brings a confused look when I say that I was raised Presbyterian. But being a New Mexican means that certain traditions transcend religion. We always make Torta de Huevo for Easter. It is a dish that is traditionally made for Lent, but we eat it i…

Let's Get Ready to Rumble

All That Jazz!

I’m a band parent. My daughter is in the Jazz Band at Taft Middle School. It's not a required class or an elective. It's a volunteer band and she's in it because she loves music. This means that I have to have her at school for band practice at 7:20 every morning b…

A Time To Heal

The year 2003 was a rough one for me and my family. My father passed away in July of that summer. My uncle died a month later and then my aunt died two months after that. There were times I would go to work in a weird fog and not be able to shake it. I worked in the Old Town area and one of the only ways of coping with it…

So when was the last time you had a serious make out session? I mean seriously sucking face like a teenager?! And where were your favorite make out spots as a youngster? Adelita - hello. I love your new exploration articles/posts/whatever they call them. Just last night I was on YouTube watching a tourists video of Old Town. He was walking around and talking about the different buildings, etc. It was later in the day so the trees, up high, were lit by the sun but the long shadows covered alot of the buildings. The perfect time when I love going to Old Town. Man...I wanted to jump on a flight and come out right away!

I did a little tour of ABQ when my Dad was in town for my grandmother's funeral. We drove all around at about the same time of day - towards sunset. It was great to see the City in that light. And to see all of the different neighborhoods. ABQ is so diverse. There is so much to see. The nooks and crannies need to be checked out as well or you'll miss that little book store or bakery or restaurant. I just love it. Give me a full tank of gas and I could entertain myself for days in ABQ.

Hope you're doing well.

That is on half.com, but I think you have to register etc. Let me order the one that says 'used, like new'. I'll get it to you somehow (may take a week, ten days to get here). Or if you're in this hood, we can meet.
I'm ordering... now!
