Martineztown holds a special place in my heart - not because I have ever lived there but because it is where my mother’s story begins. According to one source:…

It’s wedding season – dresses are being altered, flowers are being ordered, and bands are being booked. Some old traditions will be observed and some new traditions will be started. I was married for eight years and much like my marriage, my non-traditional wedding was short an…

Being Hispanic but not Catholic always brings a confused look when I say that I was raised Presbyterian. But being a New Mexican means that certain traditions transcend religion. We always make Torta de Huevo for Easter. It is a dish that is traditionally made for Lent, but we eat it i…

My family was never into wrestling. My dad was a hardcore basketball fan and my mom thought wrestling was silly. What’s strange is that I was connected to wrestling without ever knowing it. Bear with me while I unfold this story. For those of us that grew up in the N…

I’m a band parent. My daughter is in the Jazz Band at Taft Middle School. It's not a required class or an elective. It's a volunteer band and she's in it because she loves music. This means that I have to have her at school for band practice at 7:20 every morning b…

The year 2003 was a rough one for me and my family. My father passed away in July of that summer. My uncle died a month later and then my aunt died two months after that. There were times I would go to work in a weird fog and not be able to shake it. I worked in the Old Town area and one of the only ways of coping with it…

So when was the last time you had a serious make out session? I mean seriously sucking face like a teenager?! And where were your favorite make out spots as a youngster? Many of us native 'Burquenos know that some of the best places are gone, but the memories linger on. On this eve of Valentines Day, it seems appropriate to rem…

Well, it was bound to happen. Between working lots of extra hours at my new job and then getting very sick, I don't have a post! Although I have many stories waiting to be written, they all require research that I haven't gotten to yet.
So to make up for not having a pos…

I did a little tour of ABQ when my Dad was in town for my grandmother's funeral. We drove all around at about the same time of day - towards sunset. It was great to see the City in that light. And to see all of the different neighborhoods. ABQ is so diverse. There is so much to see. The nooks and crannies need to be checked out as well or you'll miss that little book store or bakery or restaurant. I just love it. Give me a full tank of gas and I could entertain myself for days in ABQ.
Hope you're doing well.
I'm ordering... now!
I see I can get you the book (like new condition) for around $10 bucks (including shipping!), hardcover...
