I know what he means

I asked Michael the other night what surprised him the most about living here in Albuquerque for the last ten years. He said, “I can’t believe how much I love this place.” I know what he means. I love it here too.

Is Copyright Protection only for those who can afford the legal fees?

Last month, I picked up a copy of New Mexico WOMAN magazine, and discovered my recipe for Cheeseburger Soup on page 32. They printed it without my permission, and credited it to their columnist, Beth Donahue.

I found it under this headline, "Recipes

Why copying a recipe and claiming it for your own is wrong

December 8, 2007

Dear Ms. Duval,

As a longtime reader of New Mexico WOMAN, imagine my surprise when I saw my recipe for Cheeseburger Soup on page 32 in the December 2007 issue.

I was initially inspired by a recipe found in "The Everyday Low-Carb Slow Cooker Cookbook" by Kitty Broiher and Kimberly Mayone (Marlowe & Company, 2004). I took t

Thanks! I grew up in suburban Minneapolis. Moved out here at the beginning of July because my wife is starting graduate school at UNM. It's a homecoming for her: she grew up in Albuquerque and much of her family is still here. I'd been here before for holidays and our wedding but never stayed longer than about a week. That said, I was looking forward to the move and haven't been disappointed.

Fabio says thanks for the birthday wishes. And, I'm glad you enjoyed my post about the pigeon rescue. You must be "one of us." Ha.

totally technical and nitpicky, but... rats don't carry hanta virus, and neither do the deer mice which are common in abq. Kangaroo mouse (also sometimes called a kangaroo rat) carries the virus, but only in the more northern part of the state.

Hi Luann! Thanks for the warm welcome to Mastermind. I'm glad to know the meetings are still on, and look forward to one in Sept, perhaps. I'll be out of town for the next one. I look forward to sharing our experiences, Christine

Luann - the fires suck. For the last three weeks we've only seen one or two days without smoke in the air. Now the heat is back and many of us don't have A/C. The air quality is similar to LA's at this time - you can maybe see 5 miles max not the 40 or 50 on clear days around here. Even on clear days it's nothing like the visibility you get in ABQ/NM.

Life is tough. My wife's job continues to keep us here on schedule - out in late Dec 2010 or early Jan 2011. She keeps getting raises and benefits.

My job on the other hand is tough. With the economy and free software tools out there it's tough convincing businesses making 20 million a year or less to go with a software solution they pay for. Plus I'm in a new sales territory (east coast covered from the west coast which means getting into work by 5:30am). I am also having to cold call to build up my list of possible deals. So, I sit here for 10 to 12 hours calling and thanking the lord I have a job and that I'm out of here in 29+ months (that's the truth).

I can do it for that amount of time but I take alot of breaks during the day to see what is going on in ABQ. It's keeps me focused and sane.

Hey.....other than work......I have no stress at home and life is good. I couldn't ask for a better situation than the opportunity to change all of this when we move. And I have plans to do so. I am seriously considering retiring from 20 years of high tech sales and maybe sales in general.

Keep in touch and please drop me a note and let me know how things are going. I know it's tough for you right now.

Luann - you bet! I have NEVER had everything come together in my life with such a clear message - "everything will be okay and another chapter in my life is opening." I have been so blessed in my life and I was reminded of it during my last trip out to see Grandma a week or so ago. She would want me to jump in feet first. I will start that on Thursday when I arrive for her viewing and then the funeral the next day. I'm in town until Sunday afternoon. I've told my relatives that if they want to go out on the town they're invited to go with me on Saturday. If I have go by myself I will.

Driving through Ridgecrest and Nob Hill will not be the same because Grandma is gone but.... it's a new chapter. Thanks for your kind posts!!!!!!
