new favorite coffee house?

So I am ashamed to say that I am woefully unfamiliar with the downtown area. As a matter of coincidence, my life in ABQ just hadn't led me to that neck of the woods... until recently. I suddenly find being introduced to all kinds of new places all over ABQ. This mornings discovery was Java Joe's around 9th and park. I immediately fell in love with the place when I first went for nostalgic reasons. It reminded me of some of the coffee houses I used to lurk in during my college years. Cramped, cr… Continue

relevant, funny and oh so stoopid...

Last night, John Stewart was pretty darn funny. This routine regards the exit strategy on leaving Iraq. Funny stuff...

36 for 36: addendum

There are a few CD that I must mention here that technically are outside the scope of my 36, but had a profound impact on my musical edumatude. I dont know what I would do without them: Miles Davis - Kind of Blue David Torn - What Means Solid, Traveller? Public Image Limited - Album (CD) Talking Heads -… Continue

36 for 36

Although my Birthday was last month, I wanted to share something that has been a tradition with me since I was in college. I started keeping track of my favorite CDs. One for each year im alive. As a new year has passed, I wanted to share my list as it stands so far. Included are links to iTunes where applicable. Here is the list so far. By the way, these are not in order of importance. All of these represent the most profound in my life to date: 1. Adham Shaikh / Tim Floyd - Drift 2. Porcupine… Continue

Hoooray for Prarie Dogs!

I think one of my favorite things about New Mexico is the Prarie Dogs. My first encounter with these cute little furballs was during my first visit to ABQ, where I suddenly had to swerve across a lane of traffic on Tramway to avoid splattering a couple of (pups?) who we're obliviously darting back and forth along the side of the road. Since then, my only experience with Prarie Dogs are the ones they have in the Corale up at the Santa Fe Jackalope... Until now. Since the construction hell on I-4… Continue

Fun things for a new person to do... as told by a new person redeux

Well, I had such a positive repsonse to the first go at this, I decided to add a few more things that perhaps would be of interest to a new person visiting the Duke City and surrounding areas. Again, my thing is looking around for things that might not be on the front page of the ABQ tourism pamphlet you grab as your walking out of the airport. Indeed, these art things that may only have interest to a select few... but there you go.

and here we go.

Things for a new person to do... as told by a new person

Well, I have been here a little over a year now. And thanks to the many great comments and insight that I received here on this forum, my transition to Albuquerque has been fairly smooth and fun. As a person who hopes to be a regular contributer to this forum, I am please to present my short list of things for people new to the area to experience. These are things that I have done over the past year that have made a profound impact on me. Many of these things are right her… Continue

Yes, I maintain that Star Trek is very homoerotic. That, and a whole bunch of other things...

Hey you- thanks for the friend invite! I read that you're new(ish) to the ol' 505? Me too. Where are you from? What brings you here?

P.S. I know all the Downtown goodies, if you ever need a point in the right direction.
