I have to thank all the people I've met in Abq for pointing me in the right direction for good breakfast. My boy and I ventured to The Range Cafe on Menaul yesterday morning, and I fell in love with the place. It was fairly busy, but the wait was barely 15 minutes, and WELL WORTH IT! He got the breakfast burrito (was huge and packed with fluffy scrambled eggs and sausage), and I got the Huevos con Queso (basically an eggs benedict with queso instead of hollandaise).
It was truly a treat. I highly recommend the place if you haven't tried it yet.
So, my dear DCF friends and suggestors - are there any other hidden breakfast gems that I should try next??
I love breakfast. Dearly. It may just be my favorite meal of the day. Unfortunately, breakfast at home is usually around two or three PM on days off (aka, the only days where leisurely, decadent, delicious breakfasts can be had)...Most places stop serving their breakfast menu around 10, or 11 if they're nice. Anyone have tips on some classic breakfast places that serve until noon at the earliest?
Also...non-froofy brunches? Is there such a thing? Any tips on the brunch scene that won't put me out more than $10 a plate?
I'd be interested in knowing more places that do brunch at all (froofy or no). Best brunch I've had here has been at La Fonda Del Bosque, but it's about $15. Not froofy, so you get 1 out of 2.
The Chocolate Bakery will make you breakfast until close (3pm?), even if you walk in at 2:50.
You can get breakfast at Weck's but it is not my favorite place. Food is too heavy, too fat, and servings are too large. Many people seem to like it though.
I love Barelas Coffee House...if you want New Mexican for breakfast, there's nowhere else you need to worry about. The huevos deluxe are usually pretty delicious, but most of the time I just go for a big bowl of green chile with beans, a couple freshly-made tortillas, and maybe a side of red chile posole if I'm really feeling hungry.
The Range on Menaul didn't impress me as much as the original in Bernalillo the one time I was there, but the one at Montgomery and Wyoming is pretty dang tasty. Mannie's is better for breakfast than it is for lunch and dinner most of the time, but they definitely walk the razor's edge between oldschool diner and greasy spoon...sometimes they cross it, other times you get a really good meal.
Here's seconding Slate Street, Gold Street Cafe, and La Provence in Nob Hill. We tried Sophia's for the first time last weekend and while my breakfast burrito was pretty tasty my sweetie was less than impressed with her eggs benedict, which weren't really what you could call poached. We'll have to give it another try and see if there are other things we enjoy more - any suggestions?
Going out for breakfast is one of the primary reasons why I incarnated on this planet (at least it is one of my greatest joys in life.) We're always looking for a new favorite place. And if there one thing that disappoints us about Albuquerque, it is that there are not dozens of great breakfast joints, but only a handful.
That being said, we went to Slate Street Cafe for the first time last week and that's a real winner. The salmon fritatta is as good of a hearty breakfast dish as you'll find anywhere. Elegant in presentation, classy in taste (I love the fresh Chives they sprinkle on top), and unique. Their hash browns with melted white cheddar cheese are perfection. The coffee rich and strong. I also really like their rendition of Huevos Rancheros. The atmosphere and the service are also top notch.
We went to Sophia's last week based on other people's recommendations. And that also gets a big WOW. The chef has an interesting take on things that transforms regular fare into something you won't find anywhere else. I had the breakfast burrito with pork. Couldn't find a thing wrong with it no matter how hard I tried. My mate's breakfast sandwich piled with fresh arugula and a savory dressing was also a real winner.
