Really stupid bike racks in ABQ

This guy started it: Stupid Albuquerque bike racks

But I feel as though there's a world of unexplored possibilities out there... For instance, has anyone tried the bike racks at the Albuquerque Museum?

I've never used the racks at the Museum, so I can't speak to their functionality, but I do like their style.

I actually like their style too. Ben Roberts took a great photo of them at night:

Not only stylish, but that rack looks like it is pleasantly out of the way of oncoming pedestrian traffic, too!

Now I need a reason to go to the Museum. they don't sell groceries there, do they?

What was stupid was when somebody stole the bike racks at UNM. All of them around Mitchell Hall dissapeared, including the bikes.

I was going to nominate the bike racks on Harvard, but then I read the original post and saw that's what started it all! I love their look, but they are almost unusalbe. Now that I think about it, maybe they aren't even bike racks!

Coronado Mall has a "bike rack" near the southeast entrance. It's a giant concrete drum, about 5 feet in diameter and three feet tall, with little steel "staples" protruding every 20º or so. The problem is, they're really low to the ground, and they only stick out about an inch, so it's practically impossible to use a U-lock. I had to turn my bike upside down, which I was worried would invite vandalism ("Ooh! Let's jump on his handlebars!")

The only rack I know of to be worse resided at my former quack-of-a-doctor's office, what used to be the Integrated Medical Center on Constitution and Wyoming (near the Pres Tri-Cor labs). It consisted of two horizontal metal bars (again, think staples) about three inches off the ground. Unless you wanted to come back to one lonely wheel (I'm guessing it was installed in the days before quick release), you had to lay the bike on its side to lock it properly.

Oh, and regarding the little loops at Uptown, I don't mind them so much. First off, they're practically invisible and blend into the streetscape very, very well. Secondly, they're at every other lightpost, meaning you're guaranteed a parking spot right at the front door of the shop you're visiting. They have standard upside-down-U racks in the basement level parking garage.

To end this on a positive note, my FAVORITE racks in the city are the custom-made beer mugs at O'Neill's. Thanks, guys!
