Thai Food

Has anyone ever eaten at Orchid Thai or Thai Tip? We are hungry for Thai food and the reviews on both of these places seem generally positive but we're not sure which one to choose. Any suggestions?

I haven't been to Thai Tip in ages, but recall their food being very good. Orchid Thai has gone down hill in my opinion. I have been very disappointed the last couple of times I have gone.

My recent favorites are Krung Thai (http://krungthaicuisine.com) and Rabieng Thong (http://rabiengthong.com). I haven't been to Krung Thai in a while, but I always enjoyed their food. All my Thai outing for the last couple of months have been to Rabieng Thong, their thai hot wings are delicious.

I love Thai Orchid. Thai Tip left me feeling over charged.

Is it me or is the service at Thai Tip a little bit... creepy?

Anyone else notice that takeout from Thai Ginger has gotten stingier? Smaller portions, hard to find whatever meat/protein you ordered? After about half-a-dozen tries in the past year I've stopped getting take-out from them because it leaves me feeling ripped off. I used to get take-out there fairly often and it's close to my house, so a bit of a bummer.

Haven't eaten at Orchid, but Thai Tip rocks! Tip is an awesome cook, willing to customize dishes if needed for allergies or dislikes. Vegetarian-friendly, excellent service. Reasonable prices, and sometimes she'll have special treats to try.
As an example of how high Tip's standards are, she'll refuse to serve you a mango that is less than perfectly ripe. If something's not up to snuff, she'd rather be 'out' of it than serve a second-rate meal. She doesn't run out of much, really, as she does the bulk of the shopping herself.
Hope this helps!

Thai Tip all the way. Stopped in one of the last times I was in town and my friend and I were both crying over lunch, in the good heat kinda way. :) We had to go to Orchid the next time through because Tip was closed that day, and while it hit the Thai spot, the heat was not there and the service was (as mentioned) reeeally slow, at like 3 PM on a weekday.

Also, we got a Thai tea to go in a styrofoam cup once, and left it in the car overnight...the next day that stuff had eaten through the styrofoam! What's in it?? So tasty...

For those that asked earlier, Thai Tip is across the street from the now-defunct Cafe Miche, at Wyoming & Constitution.

Here's the google page, with a street view option:
Thai Tip on Wyoming

Sticky rice w/ mango dessert is phenomenal, papaya salad killer, tom yum soup wonderful... and I haven't even talked about the stir-fries.

My husband and I had a rather disappointing meal last night at Thai Tip. The service was indeed creepy but more importantly, the food was just pathetic. The rice was cold and stale and the shrimp in the limp stir fry I ordered were cold and looked oddly pale. My husband's Tom Kha soup tasted like it was poured from a can. The flavors were weak and monotone. The entire experience was underwhelming.

We are new to Albuquerque and I really really hope that is not the best Thai food the Duke City has to offer!

Haven't had a good Thai Tip experience, but a few indifferent ones. Much prefer Siam Cafe (San Mateo south of Osuna) and Thai Orchid. Don't care for Thai Ginger, the quality just doesn't seem to be there.

We'll give Siam Cafe a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Try the drunken noodles. Best in town (Actually, finding pad ki mao in town is kinda hard).
