Good GYN

I have a teenage daughter who is that age now and needs a good female gyn to start seeing. Has outgrown her pediatrician and needs a gyn and probably just a good old primary care doctor for other things- preferably female. I have a great gyn but she is not comfortable with a man just yet. No problems, just want her to start the habit of once a year just like she sees her other doctor.

From the women in my group, I hear really good things about Albuquerque Women's Health at
1010 Lead Ave SE # 4, Albuquerque, NM 87106, (505) 842-5902

You could call them and ask to talk to someone about your situation and see if you think the fit is good for your daughter. I think Interviewing a physician or some leading person in the office is a good way to find them.

I love Kristin Gorbitz, a nurse practitioner who works with Dr. Karen Williams at SW Women's Health. Kristin always asks about her patients' lives generally, not just about their reproductive health.

I second Kristin G! She's great!!

I believe she's a PA and not an MD, but I love Laura Onorato. She is extremely capable and kind. I don't have her #, but she's part of the Presbyterian network.

I also have had good experiences with Dr. Vasilion (sp?), who is also in the Pres system, if you'd rather an actual MD.

Jodie Garcia at Women's Specialists of NM is very good. Easy to talk to, smart and practical Nurse Practitioner. She thoughtfully clued me in to ordering prescriptions online, you get three months for the price of two. So she gave me two rx's, one for online, and one to be filled in town sooner.

There are a lot of great docs at UNM, I really like Eve Espey and Megan Zsemmyle (I don't know how to spell her name). If there are no concerns, you could also consider a family practitioner. That would cover the primary care aspect of things. I go to Satkirin Khalsa, in the Pres group.

I second this recommendation! Drs. Zsemlye and Espey are wonderful, especially with issues of young womanhood, and super down-to-earth.

Pam Fulton is a CNP w/Drs Williams and Shoden. She's very good. Your daughter should feel comfortable with her....and unless there's other health issues going on she can probably use her as a PCP.
