Lavender Festival

Had a great time at the Lavender Festival. By 12:00pm my daughter and I were wilting from the heat. Plus my hair was growing to twice it's normal size because of the humidity. Really wanted to stay and listen to the Rivet Gang, but a Joe Sausage sandwich was calling my name! Here are a few pictures from the event.

Gorgeous flowers!

We picked our own Lavender from the Lavender Fields

Kick-ass "Adelita" purse I got at the Lavender Festival Arts and Crafts fair!

We had a great time down there, too! Good food, great music, gorgeous grounds...and best of all for my two-year-old son: tractors and pigs! What a great event.

the flower-fairy walk and flower-fairy furniture-making was FUN too! we ate some delicious strawberries, had a *free massage, played in the "bubble-garden"...the grounds were just beautiful...it was steamy but tolerable when the sun hid behind the clouds...this is a wonderful event!

See any chickens out there? They got 'ladies' that actually lay GREEN eggs!!

How cool is that?!

I am bummed that we missed it. Los poblanos is so lovely.

We had fun too!

I picked up an interesting book -Jeanie Ralston's memoir, "The Unlikely Lavender Queen", ran into an old friend and met a new one from DCF. All while breathing in the pungent lavender-scented air, sipping ginger plum lavender iced tea, and watching my daughter and her friend circle the lotus pond countless times - a serene Saturday afternoon.

I've added a couple of pictures of the beautiful Kelly Jo pottery I purchased at her studio on 4th Street. What a fun day!

Los Poblanos was a lot of fun (and the brie, butter and baguette sandwich was a fun indulgence), but I have to say the the woeful shuttle setup was a nightmare. I thought they would fix the problems after last year, but it was worse this year. We talked to some elderly folks that had waited an hour and half for a shuttle. We ended up walking a mile back to our car at one of the park and ride stops because we couldn't get on the shuttle and didn't want to wait another hour for it to come around again. I'd gladly pay a shuttle fee if it would mean that they would actually have a functioning shuttle system like they say they do in the brochure.

I agree with Edith, after every single piece of marketing they released saying "please please please take the shuttles, there just isn't any parking" we followed their suggestion and parked at Taft and ended up walking to and from the uninspiring open-air market after waiting for the shuttles for 25 minutes on one end and 55 minutes on the other. Never even made it to Los Poblanos, which is the only thing we really wanted to see anyway. Oh and there was plenty of parking at Green Valley and Rio Grande. If there is a next time, we're riding down there on two fossil fuel powered wheels.

I have to agree with you guys about the shuttle. I had been warned by my sister who was a volunteer, to steer clear of it because it was so disorganized. Hope they get it straightened out next year.

This was our third year and this event has definitely outgrown it's ability to handle people. We ended up walking everywhere (not that we couldn't stand to burn some calories) and some seniors in the shuttle line behind us decided to just go home. I didn't blame them one bit. We ended up spending 90% of our time at Casa Rondena, which is lovely as always. Then home to find out our refrigerator had quit sometime during the night maybe....everything in the freezer had to be tossed. Oh well.
