The Tale of the Escaped Dog, but Not Really About the Dog

A brunch was interrupted this morning as a black and white heeler mix came bounding toward us this morning as we got into the car. Excited, playful, skittish, certainly friendly - we waylaid him long enough to get a phone number off of his collar, and then off he ran, not comfor… Continue

A Pleasant Lobo Surprise

We were walking up to The Pit last night to watch the UNM Lobos take on Oral Roberts University. It became immediately obvious that I had misplaced one of the tickets somewhere between my work, my house and Lobo Country.

Totally furious at myself, I prepared to throw myself at the mercy of the ticket-taker, explaining that I had bought two tickets and had lost one out of sheer a… Continue

Holiday Request

When tailgating the Fed Ex truck (I mean you black Acura), pay attention, please. Honking angrily at the FedEx guy when he parks in front of a house iand you almost rear end him s not appropriate holiday behavior. Especially because, well, it's the holidays and there's a distinct possibility the FedEx guy MIGHT be stopping at multiple houses this time of year and furthermore if you're not careful, when he gets to yours, you may just get a big package of coal.

Pressing Sushi-Related Tipping Question

Just curious if anyone can offer some enlightenment on appropriate sushi restaurant tipping? When out at sushi tonight we were trying to decide if we should tip the sushi chefs separately from the server? It hard to know if servers and sushi chefs share tips, especially when the chefs have a big ol' tip bucket on the top of the sushi bar.

Any thoughts on protocol? Any sushi chefs or servers out there that want to weigh in on this general or how it works at your restaurant?

An Open Letter on the Wisdom of Imprisoning Errant Shopping Carts

To the person at the Albuquerque Target on Eubank that didn't corral their shopping cart:

ARRRRRRRGH! In a city as windy as this one you couldn't be bothered to haul your cart five feet to its cozy little cart corral home? And instead you left it to its own device… Continue

Rise Up - The House of Bread Cometh

The first Albuquerque location of House of Bread is now open at Indian School and Carlisle near Los Poblanos Organics.

I bought a loaf of honey whole wheat and tasted a bit of the Dakota Bread - yum. Check it out for yourself. Looks like it's a franchise, with local owners.

In that handy little strip mall you can now get your organic vegetables, your… Continue

BOOT CAMP or DAMN YOU ROCCO!

As my way of ushering in September and a new job, I checked out Rocco Castellano's boot camp. I'd seen his column in Local iQ and read a few weeks ago that he had relocated to Albuquerque and would be conducting his boot camps here. I've been intending to check one out, but didn't make it until today.

Um, so, ouch? Between exercise such the superman,… Continue

Hairless at Home Depot

To the Woman Who Lost Her Hair Extensions on the floor of the Home Depot on Eubank,

Thank you for making my day. When the kindly old man starting wandering around the nursery aisles with a clump of highlighted brunette fabulousness asking everyone he could find if they'd lost their hair; well I practically collapsed laughing into the vegetables.

Here's hoping your hair made it back to your waiting arms safely.

Hey Alexis, would you happen to know if some of your fellow culinary arts students whom may be interested and qualified to make ravioli to my specifications? I am looking for a bit of help or at least to begin creating somewhat of a database for potential raviolimakers or future raviolimakers, any suggestions would be appreciated, JSS.

Nice running into you on Saturday. Sorry my mouth was stuffed full of food, but after a long ride, there are few distractions that will keep a cyclist from "refeuling." Especially with a good Sammy Smith's.
