SLIDELUCK POTSHOW New Mexico is a means by which to expose artists, curators and editors to new work, while infusing the arts community with a fresh vitality and exchange of ideas and inspiration in an informal setting.

Photojournalists, painters, designers, sculptors, fashion and fine art photographers all show their work alongside one another in a relaxed and spirited atmosphere. Presenters range from the very accomplished to those who have never shown work publicly before, but regardless of status, none is allotted more than five minutes for their slideshow.

Participants bring food, drink, and no more than five minutes worth of slides. The evening kicks off with a couple hours of feasting on the home-cooked (or store-bought if you prefer) offerings of participants, while drinking and mingling. Everyone is asked to contribute, as the success of the event is completely dependent on participation. Following the potluck, the lights are dimmed, the crowd is hushed, and a spectacular slideshow commences.

at an opening and reception (for me, actually) on Sunday, May 11th, a group of longtime working artists and gallery owners were in a generally agreed-upon discussion that, the very word "curator" would lead to the demise of real art in New Mexico. Hmmmmm What say You, out there? Since I have recently referred to myself as such in 2 recent "facilitations", "installations", I fel a bit shy as an unknown to this group of people and not sure how I felt about it. I would like to hear from other 50 somethings.......that does not mean to sound uppity, judgemental, or anything else like that you can come up with, I am only trying to say that growing up in one generation "tends" toward feeling differently about such things sometimes. ALL are welcome. THANKS. Peace, Rebecca
