I'm all out of homebrew so I bought a six-pack of Budweiser American Ale as I was getting my act together for another batch (an Extra Pale Ale this tiime). I am interested in your opinions on this beer,. I was somewhat surprised and impressed with Budweiser American Ale. I really didn't realize they had released this as a commercial product until I stumbled on to it at the grocery store.
I am not one to bash AB relentlessly because I think they do what they do very well. There are places where I'd rather have a Bud Light than the local water because I know what I'm going to get. I admire the big commercial breweries mainly for their consistancy...they can make the same exact product year after year while I can't seem to have two identical batches come out the same. So what do you think?
I hadn't heard of this Bud product. What would you compare it to? I guess I'll look for it and give it a try. Maybe do the old blind taste test on the hubby.
Sarah...I'm not sure what to compare it to...I guess maybe a Red Tail Ale or Bell's amber ale, or maybe a Fat Tire. I saw a list of commericial amber ales but I honestly didn't recognize most of them. I think Full Sail Amber was listed and I have seen that in stores from time to time. I don't think it was hoppy enough to be compared to an IPA. I recall that they said that they dry-hopped with Cascade hops.
I tried this one night at Billy's Longbar after seeing it advertised. It was decent... I agree that it was a bit on the malty side, like an amber and definitely nowhere hoppy enough to be an IPA.
As a beer, it was decent. I don't think I'd like it on a regular basis, but as a once-in-awhile, night-out sort of beer, it works.
