Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Hi everyone. I've searched through the archives here and found some useful bits but was hoping to get advice more specific to me. I'm a 24 y/o guy looking for a new place to get my haircut. My hair is extremely thick, very coarse, and extremely straight. I've been going to the Mark Pardo at Ellison and Coors for the last few months, but she's been doing some really sloppy and inconsistent work that I want to switch. (I get the feeling she'd rather be working on women's hair.) I haven't been to a true barbershop in years and years. Would that be a better idea over a stylist at a salon? Any specific recommendations either way, to include stylists/barbers at salons/barbershops who would be well suited to my type of hair? Bonus points for a barber/stylist who would be comfortable making good recommendations on what to do with my hair. Thanks in advance.

I love the way Margie over at Antonio's Artistic Hair Center on Montgomery does my hair, I too have thick coarse hair. She does it all with a razor. I always walk away feeling good about my haircut when I go there. Its a little pricy, but you need to treat yourself once in a while.
