Donate a Car 1 Reply

A few years ago, I inherited my great-aunt's car. It's a 1979 Mercury Zephyr with 66,000 miles on it. I'm the second owner. I really want to donate the car, but it isn't running nor has it ran in...

Mariachi Etiquette 8 Replies

I love mariachi music. When they play in an eating establishment, do you tip them? How do you tip them? How much do you tip them? And (heaven forbid) how do you ask them not to play at your table i...

Also, have to give a shout-out to the dark of the moon, as it makes stargazing even more incredible than usual. And, of course, ERs are also busier during the full moon. What do your friends at APD say about full moon criminal activity?

My very few interactions with APD (as witness to accident and concerned citizen-type stuff) have all been positive. I wish I could say the same for the police in the northern New Mexican town in which my mother died by suicide. People in my suicid...

What started off as a trip to see T or C/Elephant Butte turned into the chile run all the way down to La Mesilla and Cruces. My wife and I beat our previous one day road trip record by 131 miles (496 total). When I lived in the SF Bay Area and go...

It's far too easy sometimes to get caught up in our own heads, our own little worlds. Every now and again it's good to have a reminder like this, to look around and appreciate those things that normally pass by in a blurrrr Thanks !

Not to mention....right before gay pride they made a nasty statement about the community and got into some heat over it. Kelly's Brewpub has a large patio where those who want to be seen can be seen, plus it is one of the only patios on Central. M...

Getting the Batters Edge..its a hit!

Since Duane and I decided to take Tuesdays off from our toil in the rug mines we do stuff in Burque that we never normally have time for. Usually its the ol' run round town doing errands, library, petstore, TJS etc. But this Tuesday we wanted something to take the edge off running a retail store....insert google search for batting cage! Who In Albuquerque Remembers Glen Campbell?

I can barely remember Albuquerque's Glen (Wichita Lineman) Campbell singing and playing on the Dick Bills' Show on black and white TV in the 1950s. There must be dozens or hundreds of stories about him among Duke City old-timers, however. Anybody care to share?
I'm particularly interested in whether or not he played basketball. Looking through an AAU tournament program from 1952, I've found a Glen Campbell on the roster of Mike's Food Store, which was located at 901 North Fourth. I'm wondering i… Continue

The Most Friendly Hurricanes

Mondays are becoming my favorite day of the week. Not only is Monday the only day I have off but the past two Mondays I have had to take my friend Steve to work at the diner/drive-in Hurricanes.

Steve started working at Hurricanes back in 2007 when he had dropped out of school and was looking for a job. Back then Hurricanes had two locations - Lomas & Washington, and Eubank & Candelaria. He worked at the Eubank location, getting the job through his neighbor who was a cook. Six months af… Continue

Driving down from the Crest

Folks, after following a full-size SUV all the way down from the Crest this morning, I felt compelled to offer a bit of advice. If you take a drive up to the Crest, a wonderful drive by the way, be sure to use a lower gear on the way down so you don't have to ride your brake all the way. I smelled burning brake pads all the way down today and he could have avoided all the extra wear and tear if he had just used a lower gear.… Continue
